Oktober – Fess Up

on
October 5, 2017

Did you know that Oktoberfest begins in September? Years ago, the organizers realized the weather was more predictable in September, which resulted in a better turn out. Therefore, the festivities began earlier.  Just another instance of the Germans trying to confuse us, similar to spelling Volkswagen with an ‘e’.

I have taken part in some Oktoberfest festivities – unfortunately, not in Munich, but close…downtown Calgary. As predicted, the girls working were dressed in “traditional” Oktoberfest costumes. They were all carrying jugs and not just of beer.

In Oktoberfest fashion, I ordered a gigantic stein of beer. It was advertised that the customer could take the beer stein home. I can’t think of anything more exciting to take home from the bar.

At our facility, we do celebrate Oktoberfest, but it is a bit different. The boobs weren’t as perky, the beer wasn’t alcoholic and the performer wasn’t young.

In Colour Monster, I was unable to communicate with a resident. Today, I communicated with the wrong individual.

The other day I was walking past the front desk when the receptionist asked me, “can you provide details regarding the upcoming Oktoberfest special event and can family members attend?”

I immediately turned towards the individual she was standing beside and rattled off the itinerary of our Oktoberfest. I was talking fast (which my Grandma says I do all of the time), so it was impossible to interrupt.

At the end of my spiel the receptionist said, “oh no, he wasn’t asking. I had someone call in and ask.”

It turned out, that individual was only looking at the facility as an option for his loved one (and English was his second language).

The puzzled look on his face now made sense.

As always I fessed up for making a mistake.

At least now knows that we throw one heck of a party – maybe that will influence his decision.

Hey there. I’m Rachelle. I’m a Saskatchewan girl living in an Albertan world. I enjoy the simple things in life like all you can eat sushi, that spiral brush on my eyebrows and freshly vacuumed carpet. I’m a Recreation Therapist and my day is about as predictable as my curls. The people I’ve had the pleasure of working with and my own clumsiness has resulted in some pretty entertaining stories. This blog is simply a place to share those stories and hopefully bring a smile to your face too.
