Hey Boo-Boo Let’s Go Get Us a Sneak-Peak

The leaves have begun to fall and are covering up the almost brown, dead grass. There is something so therapeutic about the sound of the leaves crunching underneath one’s feet. I am shocked that I enjoy that sound since the crunching of people eating nearly kills me.

I prefer Fall walks over Summer walks. Maybe it’s because Fall is my favourite season or perhaps because it is a time to admire my stylish boots.

When walking through the fallen leaves, it’s difficult not to notice the various colours, shapes and the fact that I need to rake. On occasion you’ll spot the ‘perfect’ leaf and may even hold onto it.

Collecting and pressing leaves has always been an interesting hobby to me. We do have pressed leaves at my parents’ house so I’m not going to make fun of it too much, but I obviously will a little bit.

The leaf is always pressed in a large book (clearly), but usually those large books are the ones that sit on the bookshelf and collect dust. So the leaves are never admired unless that book is randomly flipped open to that exact page. If it would have been left on the ground, more people would have been able to admire it so really, pressing leaves is a selfish hobby.

The cool breeze will blow the leaves until the trees are naked and apparently until I am naked as well…

In Spare the Duct Tape, Spoil the Job, our umbrella did not cooperate during a picnic. Today, my shirt did not cooperate on the way to the picnic.

This Summer the picnics were held in our courtyard just to the side of the building. I say ‘just to the side of the building’, but with winding paths and various sidewalk dips, it was like taking the residents through one of those fun houses at the fair.

I originally planned for picnics in the park, 3 blocks away, but after the first excursion down to the courtyard, we quickly realized a picnic in the park would be like Frodo’s journey to Mount Doom in Lord of the Rings.

It was a beautiful, breezy day. The second we stepped outside, residents began to whine that it was ‘too cold’ and ‘too windy’ and there I was, squeezing my arms to my side to hide my pit stains.

My student was pushing an individual in a wheelchair, while I walked alongside two ladies who use walkers (it’s recommended to have the students do the hard work). We were approaching the bend of the building, as I turned around to say something (probably witty), the wind grabbed my shirt and exposed too much skin for one second too long.

I quickly pulled the sides of my shirt down and apologized to the giggling ladies for the revealing of my stomach.

One lady spoke up, “don’t apologize, take it off!”

I wonder what kind of trouble she found back in the day…

If Yogi Bear and Boo-Boo would have stopped by, I think they would have been looking at more than the pic-a-nic basket.

It sounds like you keep everyone entertained at work, also – having summer students is the best, right!?

Honestly, I was a little nervous, but I really enjoyed it! Made it even more special that she was a student from Brock 🙂

Hey there. I’m Rachelle. I’m a Saskatchewan girl living in an Albertan world. I enjoy the simple things in life like all you can eat sushi, that spiral brush on my eyebrows and freshly vacuumed carpet. I’m a Recreation Therapist and my day is about as predictable as my curls. The people I’ve had the pleasure of working with and my own clumsiness has resulted in some pretty entertaining stories. This blog is simply a place to share those stories and hopefully bring a smile to your face too.
